Kulungwana – Associação para o Desenvolvimento recently started the EU cofinanced project CANTATE.

The main goal of the project is to “Contribute to the flourishing of a sociocultural movement that can be an alternative to intolerance, radicalism and violence through the guidance and constructive occupation of children, adolescents and young people in the provinces of Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Niassa.

The Cantate project target group are children and young students from public schools, living under difficult and precarios conditions, who through the teaching and learning of cultural expressions, life skills and citizenship education will be better prepared for the future.

The project is based on experience gained by Kulungwana in the colective music teaching of children and youth in the Xiquitsi project. A social impact study on Xiquitsi revealed very
positive results in providing Xiquitsi students important tools for their future, which apart from capacity of some to gain income as young musicians include important life skills such as, discipline, punctuality, team work, respect for others and planning capacity, The study also indicated a positive spin/off for their families and community.

The Cantate project will in 2021 start its training activities in Nampula City, the District of Ilha de Moçambique and Lumbo As discussed, we are very pleased to start a partnership with your organization, The Pearl of Mozambique, to contribute to the work you are doing at the Pearl of Mozambique Community Centre in Lumbo.
