After our recent trip to Mozambique, we’re in the position to give you an
accurate update on the developments there. Due to the presidential elections on October 15th, it was a little harder and more complicated to set up meetings, as local authorities were mostly on tour raising votes.

Since the transport of materials was also delayed and disorganized, we’ve brought bricks and cement to the Casa Mae Espera ourselves in order for them to continue the construction. We also had another look just before we left, and there is definitely some good progress made. There will be three rooms with space for up to four pregnant women per room, then there will be four bathrooms, an open kitchen and a big terrace. The construction should be finished by the end of November.

Medicines for the hospital in Mossurill
We’ve delivered the medicines at Dr. Gildo in Mossuril. Of course they were very happy with this help. They will keep us updated on the highest priority needs so we can assess our abilities to help. Obviously we are also very grateful to dr. Merel Meeuwes as she was of great help by organizing the right purchases.

The school in Marrerene
The school we’ve built in Marrerene three years ago is still in use. Approximately 200 children per day are visiting the school, which is great to see. The building is still in great condition, we are however considering upgrading the building by adding doors and school seats. The benefit that the children will go to school in much more comfort and won’t have to sit on the ground, however the capacity is reduced as a result as well. We will start the discussion with the teachers on our next visit.

he Cultural Community Center (CCC)
The community center is a little bit on hold for the time being. We are still waiting for approval of the construction drafts, but due to the earlier mentioned presidential elections, this is obviously not a high priority for the local authorities, which makes it very time consuming. It was also very hard to talk the right person this time round. Luckily we were able to bring a lot of materials for the library.

Once again we were shown in conversations with the local population about the elections, how big the need for education is.

This should be priority nr. 1.
